I just finished reading Leonard Pitts Jr.’s column regarding the McGwire/Sosa home-run race and its marketing ramifications (Commentary, Oct. 6).

Pitts quotes a Washington Post article stating McGwire is more marketable because he fits “an all-American image” and somehow translates that into meaning he’s more marketable because he is white and Sammy is not because he’s brown.

The last time I looked, Michael Jordan was dark-skinned and the most marketable athlete in the world. How does Mr. Pitts explain that?
