UCLA and Miami will meet Dec. 5 at the Orange Bowl, making up a game postponed on Sept. 26 because of the threat of Hurricane Georges.

UCLA is 4-0 and ranked No. 2 in the country. Neither school had an open weekend available and Dec. 5 was the only option for making up the game.

– UCLA tailback Jermaine Lewis, suspended for one game by coach Bob Toledo for his involvement in an off-campus fight, has been reinstated.

Toledo said Lewis, a starter before his suspension last week, will play Saturday against Oregon at the Rose Bowl, but will not start. Lewis missed the Bruins’ 52-28 victory at No. 16 Arizona on Saturday.

– Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said that Marcus Ray, who was suspended last month for breaking NCAA rules, has lost his tri-captaincy and his starting strong safety position when Ray returns Oct. 31 against Minnesota. DeWayne Patmon replaced Ray in the Wolverines’ secondary.

An investigation by the university found that a bank had provided tickets to a stadium skybox for a jazz festival in Cincinnati, and Ray picked them up at agent James Gould’s office.

The investigation also found that Gould had helped Ray’s friends with arrangements for hotel-room payments.
