The Barrington Plan Commission unanimously approved expansion plans Tuesday night for Grove and Lines Elementary Schools.

Commissioners continued a public hearing for Barrington High School’s proposed expansion until Oct. 20, saying they wanted to see plans for storm-water retention.

The expansion of the schools, to cost at least $74 million, will be funded by tax levies approved in a March 1997 referendum measure, District 220 Supt. Jonathan Lamberson said.

At Grove School, the district plans to build a two-story, 30,000-square-foot classroom and gymnasium addition, and to widen parts of the school’s entrance drive to improve traffic flow. Plans for Lines School include a 14,000-square-foot addition for a gymnasium and classrooms, and a 2,100-square-foot kindergarten addition.

The high school is to get a two-story, 41,000-square-foot classroom addition, a 40,000-square-foot gymnasium and a 50,000-square-foot addition housing a cafeteria, library and theater.
