Stephen J. Markham, 24, of Arlington Heights died Sunday in Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Markham, who was born in Arlington Heights and graduated from Palatine High School, was a senior studying psychology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. “People were most important to him,” said his sister Catrina Cerny. “He cared about people a lot. He had very strong ideals and beliefs.” Other survivors include his father, Raymond, and his mother, Carole Marshall; another sister, Marie Gonzalez; three brothers, Raymond Jr., Clint Cerny and Carl Cerny; and his grandmother Marie Hardy. Prayers will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, followed by a mass at 11 a.m. in the Marian Chapel at Maryville Academy, 1150 N. River Rd., Des Plaines.
