Alan E. Martin, 68, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Wheeling, died Oct. 15 in Arizona. Mr. Martin, who was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was a retired carpenter and co-owner of the former Durnan-Martin Co., Mundelein, a carpentry shop. Mr. Martin served as a radio Jeep driver with the rank of corporal in the 1st Marine Division in Korea during the Korean War. “He was a driver in a motor convoy that ran into heavy enemy small-arms fire,” said his daughter Sue Tendering. “Even though he was wounded, he was able to repair the radio and report that the convoy was under attack He was a great guy.” Other survivors include his wife of 45 years, Patricia; two other daughters, Sharon Holly and Sandy Lawrence; his mother, Freeda; two brothers, Charles and Neil; a sister, Lois Price; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, to be followed by a memorial service, in Kristan Funeral Home, 219 W. Maple Ave., Mundelein.
