Mary Schmich’s Oct. 18 column urging support for Carol Moseley-Braun’s re-election, “flaws and all,” underscores the sad state of politics in our city, in our state, in our nation.
Once again, on Nov. 3, we will go to the polls to vote not for an outstanding individual to constitute 50 percent of our representation in the United States Senate but rather for the lesser of two evils.
Ignore the negatives, vote for Carol. Ignore the negatives, vote for Peter. What’s the difference?
Mary Schmich is correct, of course: This is a year for substance, as all years should be years for substance. The issue is what kind of substance either candidate brings to the Senate chamber. The answer, regrettably, is the same for both: not very much.
