We were without electricity from Commonwealth Edison for 57 hours after the Nov. 10 windstorm. Yes, it was a monster windstorm and caused much damage. But we suffered unnecessarily because ComEd and its tree-trimming contractor did not do a complete trimming this spring. The crews missed limbs near power lines then. Now, those lines were cut or damaged.

To compound the 57-hour nightmare, ComEd didn’t give its residential customers candid facts about such problems. We called 17 times over 40 hours. After demanding deadlines, we were given four different times as to when the outage would be over. Neighbors got different times.

In homes, computers were down, food spoiled in freezers, temperatures were in the low 50s and upper 40s at night.
