Regarding Phil Vettel’s column about tipping (Perspective, Nov. 8). I’m sure he thought he was making a witty and keen observation about modern life. I had a different interpretation.

When a well-paid, salaried, upper-middle-class professional begrudges spare change to a low-paid, hourly wage employee, he only sounds extraordinarily cheap and arrogant.
