Wonder Lake Elementary School District 36 plans to offer an after-school educational program in Spanish during the spring semester.
“The only hurdle to overcome is finding and hiring a local Spanish instructor,” said Principal JoAnne Fleshman of Harrison School, the only school in the district.
The one-hour class, taught through Discovery West Inc. of West Dundee, will be offered for pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade once a week for 12 weeks.
The cost is $100 a child. District officials hope the class will eventually be taught at four different levels.
“The feeling is that upper grades have other opportunities, such as sports-related activities and technology, which will be offered in the near future, but there was nothing really being offered for the younger students,” Fleshman said.
