I was disappointed in reading a recent caption about construction workers pouring “cement.” That is incorrect. The construction workers were placing concrete. Cement is only one of several ingredients that make up concrete.

I am a structural engineer, and I see this confusion all the time. Many people use phrases such as “cement mixer” or “cement sidewalk.” Concrete should be used in place of the word “cement.”
