India’s intermediate-range ballistic missile is at an advanced stage of production, the country’s top defense scientist said Tuesday.
The Agni, which has a planned range of 1,500 miles, was last test-fired in February 1994. India also plans to develop a second phase with a longer range.
“The Agni missile has graduated from being a technology demonstrator to a full missile,” said A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, scientific adviser to the defense minister, at a news conference at an international airshow here.
“It is in an advanced stage of development and production.”
