Agnes M. Beck, 93, a lifelong Chicagoan who worked for the Newspaper Representatives Association of Chicago for 65 years, died Monday in Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. Ms. Beck began work for the association when she was 15, lying about her age to get the position, said her niece, Anne Beck. She remained there until she was 80, still keeping her age a secret to stay working in a job she loved. Ms. Beck’s responsibility was to check credit for advertisers wishing to place advertisements in the newspapers the association represented. She also organized a national food editors’ conference annually for many years. Relatives described her as an upbeat, humorous and giving woman. “She was sort of like a fairy godmother to everybody,” Anne Beck said. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 10:30 a.m. service at the Addolorata Villa nursing home, 555 McHenry Rd., Wheeling.
