The Lockport Plan Commission has endorsed a proposal to build a 50-unit, $4.5 million senior citizens housing complex proposed by the Stough Group of Hinsdale.
The City Council must approve the development and annex the 5-acre site on Division Street, just west of Farrell Road.
Supervisor Judy Batusich said the complex is needed because many senior citizens in the township cannot find an affordable home in the area. The Stough Group expects that rents for the units will start at $395 a month, said developer Mike Pizzuto.
The developer is seeking a state loan and federal tax credits, Pizzuto said. Construction could begin in August 1999 and the complex could open in the summer of 2000, he said.
