Lucille T. Veltri, 83, died Thursday in Oakton Pavilion Nursing Home in Des Plaines. “She always had a joke or a funny story. She was a social butterfly,” her granddaughter, Chris Hilton, said. Mrs. Veltri was born in Butler, Pa., and grew up in Chicago. Relatives described her as a woman ahead of her times because she worked for many years in the 1940s when she was a single mother. Mrs. Veltri did administrative work for Continental Casualty Co. and Sargent & Lundy in Chicago. She was active in the Little Brothers of the Poor, now known as Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, and the Apostles of the Handicapped. She was involved in the Grandmother’s Club and traveled extensively with that group. Other survivors include two daughters, Karen A. Saunders and Marilyn Sweis; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg.
