When pay day finally came for the workers of Asbostroi building enterprise in Russia’s Urals, it was in wine–not rubles. Not everyone was happy.
Factory bosses keen to wipe out arrears dating back to February decided to hand out the wine they had received as part of a debt-settling deal with the southern Stavropol region.
“Labor discipline at the enterprise dropped sharply because workers started wine tasting without waiting for their shift to end,” a news report said.
But women workers in the asbestos-producing town of Asbest were not amused.
They demanded their wages, if not in real money, then in more useful products like oil or flour.
