Robert Bacon Dewey, 78, a 27-year-resident of Inverness and a former town board member, died Friday in Colorado Springs. Mr. Dewey spent his working life as an advertising executive, working for firms in Chicago including Young and Rubicam and N.W. Ayer, said his wife, Marjorie. He retired in 1985. He was born in Detroit, graduated from Dartmouth College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Mr. Dewey and his wife lived in Detroit before moving to Inverness in the 1950s. From 1965 to 1969, he was a member of the Inverness Village Board. Mr. Dewey also was president of the Inverness Golf Club in 1976. After the couple retired to Hendersonville, N.C., 12 years ago, Mr. Dewey volunteered to teach inmates in North Carolina prisons to read. Besides his wife, Mr. Dewey is survived by three daughters, Gail Trefil, Marilyn Dewey-Davis and Laura Litwiller; a son, Peter; and nine grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held in January.
