While I’m sure the interior of the 3Com building in Rolling Meadows, as it’s described (Tempo, Feb. 3), is an innovative office space marvel, the outside is just plain, God-awful ugly. Each time I drive past that building, I find it a jarring, unsettling blight upon the landscape. I wonder, “What were they thinking?” I hold 3Com in lower regard for settling upon such a monstrosity.
I know architecture is supposed to touch you emotionally, and maybe a bad reaction is better than no reaction at all, but I wonder if 3Com really wanted their building to bring out the feelings of out-and-out revulsion.
There! I got that off my chest and I do feel better.
