Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I didn’t want another day to pass without putting into words what I have been thinking for many months, possibly years, about the pleasure that Steve Johnson’s writing has brought to me.

He has sent me to the dictionary a few times in search of words or phrases, such as “desultory” and “in high dudgeon.”

Thanks to you, such words are now part of my vocabulary, and my son’s vocabulary too. I often save your columns, and after both my 17-year-old son and I have read your articles, we discuss not only the subject matter, but your choice of similes, metaphors and imagery. (In the Feb. 5 Tempo, I loved your choice of words: “two-night exercise in paint-by-numbers nostalgia.”)
