A junior high school student enters the library and asks for information on breast cancer. The friendly librarian quickly returns with an armload of data–a stack of Playboy, Hustler and Penthouse magazines and one book about breast cancer. Could it happen? Of course not. No librarian would be so grossly irresponsible. And yet that same library becomes decidedly less friendly when it allows that student unfiltered access to the Internet, where a breast cancer search will likely unearth a plethora of revolting pornographic images.

Clearly there is danger on the Internet. It requires close monitoring by responsible adults.
