I would like to thank the Calumet City firefighters who came to the aid of my wife this past Valentine’s Day. I dialed 911 and was greeted by a very calm and professional female voice, reassuring me that things would be all right. As soon as I hung up the phone I could hear the sirens. Within moments, the paramedics had arrived and were hurrying up the stairs to aid my wife.
It feels good knowing that our city has such vital services available. It gives me an even greater sense of security knowing that these young men and women work with such courtesy, dedication and professionalism.
My wife and I had to temporarily postpone our Valentine’s Day dinner. But we are all fortunate that our police and paramedics often postpone more than just a holiday for our benefit. What for me was a (God willing) rare and traumatic experience for them is a daily test of their mental and physical endurance.
Things are working in this town. People care, from the mayor’s office on down. And it shows. Thank you all.
