Question: What do those abbreviations, like .com or .org, mean at the end of a Web address?
The three-letter suffixes after the dot in Web addresses are known as TLDs, or top-level domains. Most of the time, they give you a clue as to who administers the site. For example, .com is a company or commercial enterprise, .org is for a non-profit organization, .gov is a government institution, and .edu is an educational institution. Other codes signify countries (like .uk for the United Kingdom).
