The premise of John Kass’ March 1 column, “Scandal fatigue or outrage–that’s the question,” is entirely misplaced. Mr. Kass suggests that the public has two choices in reacting to Juanita Broaddrick’s allegations–either outrage or apathy. Not surprisingly, Mr. Kass entirely ignored the obvious and, I suspect, the favored third choice: disbelief. As usual Mr. Kass and other avowed Clinton-haters underestimate the American public and misapprehend the nature of their disdain for Ms. Broaddrick’s claims. The American people do not suffer from “scandal fatigue,” as Mr. Kass suggests, but rather, quite simply, do not find Ms. Broaddrick credible.
Contrary to Mr. Kass’ assessment, I suspect that most Americans simply continue to recognize partisan politics, hypocrisy and cheap attempts to profit from publicity when they see them.
