This is in response to Robert A. Novickas’ Feb. 27 letter, “Internet protection.” He told us that junior high school students seeking information on breast cancer would “likely unearth a plethora of revolting pornographic images.” I don’t know where Mr. Novickas conducted his Internet search to find these revolting and pornographic images when searching for breast cancer. He certainly didn’t use any of the Internet’s top search engines (Yahoo, AltaVista, Infoseek, Excite, HotBot) as I did, because no matter how hard I tried, nothing revolting or pornographic in nature appeared as a search result for breast cancer.
Robert Novickas is correct when he states that there is a danger on the Internet, but it comes from scare-mongering censorship advocates, and not from the free flow of information on a computer in the public library system.
