Mundelein High School announced Tuesday night it has created a special summer school program in cooperation with its sender schools to help incoming freshmen make a successful transition to high school.

The program will be aimed at three target populations, Sally Pilcher, assistant principal, told board members at the District 120 school board meeting.

One target group will be pupils who have not quite met requirements for graduating from 8th grade. After they successfully complete the bridge program, they will receive their 8th-grade diplomas from their feeder schools and also a half credit toward high school graduation.

Pilcher said the bridge courses will meet three hours a day, Monday through Thursday, from June 7 to July 22.
