Hurricanes right winger Andrei Kovalenko, acquired in a recent trade with Philadelphia, is playing for his third team this season and fifth of his seven-year career. At this rate, he could break the record for most teams played for in a career held by Phoenix defenseman Michel Petit, who is playing for his 10th team in 17 seasons.

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY

New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur picked up his 30th win of the season with a 3-2 decision over Pittsburgh on March 9, making him only the sixth netminder in NHL history to have four consecutive 30-win seasons. Here are the others:

Player Team Consecutive 30-win seasons

Tony Esposito BLACKHAWKS 7 (1969-70 to 1975-76)

Jacques Plante Montreal 6 (1954-55 to 1959-60)

Terry Sawchuk Detroit 5 (1950-51 to 1954-55)

Ken Dryden Montreal 5 (1974-75 to 1978-79)

MEMORABLE DEAL

With the trading deadline a week away, contending teams are scrambling to make key acquisitions for a Stanley Cup run. The deadline deal which had the most impact was made on March 10, 1980, when the Islanders acquired center Butch Goring from the Los Angeles Kings for winger Bill Harris and defenseman Dave Lewis. Goring was the last piece in the puzzle for the Islanders, who went on to win four straight Stanley Cups (1980-83). %%
