When Chicago Tactical Officer James Camp approached a suspect car, he had no idea that a career criminal was behind the wheel. The car was stolen, and the driver knew that when that fact was quickly confirmed he would be going back to prison for a long time. His choice to resist cost the Camp family their loved one, and our city an effective and dedicated police officer.

For the third time in less than a year we witness the anguish, sadness and tears as a criminal act turns the Camp family into the latest Gold-Star family in our community. I am thankful for the service of Patrolman James Camp. He left us much too soon.
