Jack E. Follis, 74, of Des Plaines, formerly of Lincoln, Ill., died Tuesday at Hampton Plaza Nursing Home, Niles. Mr. Follis retired in 1982 as head of veterans affairs for the Chicago office of the U.S. Department of Labor. Mr. Follis served as a Navy chief petty officer aboard the cruiser USS Flint in the Pacific during World War II and on another ship in the Far East during the Korean War. Mr. Follis was commander of Disabled Veterans of America Post 47, Chicago, from 1984 to 1986. “He enjoyed his time in the service,” said his son Jim. “He was very loving toward his grandchildren in later years. He enjoyed everything they did.” Other survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four other sons, Jack, Robert, Jerry and Jon; four brothers, William, Robert, Jim and Donald; a sister, Louise Dike; and 14 grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday in Elkhart, Ill.
