Marie D. Janik, 87, a lifelong resident of Libertyville who worked to restore its downtown and preserve its history, died in her home Wednesday of pulmonary fibrosis. Mrs. Janik, considered a historian of the village, maintained records of the growth of Libertyville over her entire life. She was active until recently in Main Street Libertyville, an organization dedicated to revitalizing the village center. “She was born in a house six blocks from the one she died in,” said her son, Gregory Janik. “She was a very social person, and she enjoyed people calling on her at all hours of the day and night.” Mrs. Janik also is survived by a brother, Raymond; three sisters, Alice Duba, Dorothy Hackett and Joan Gastfield; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Pl., Libertyville. There will be a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel, followed by an 11 a.m. mass in St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville.
