Robert E. Becker, 65, a longtime resident of the northwest suburbs and, more recently, of Glenwood, died Friday of cancer in his south suburban home. His wife, Rev. Vivian J. Becker, said Mr. Becker will be remembered for his generosity and dedication to mentoring in the field of association management. Mr. Becker, a lawyer, owned Bostrom Corp. in Chicago. “Anybody who had a need, he would try to meet it. Whether it would be finding them a job, paying for their education and giving them a place to live, he would find a way to do it,” said his daughter Sarah V. Becker-Luebbert. “And he would try to make it look like it was barter situation.” Mr. Becker was past president of the Chicago Society of Association Executives and a member of the board of the American Society of Association Executives. Survivors include a son, Bruce; his parents, Carlyle and Orvilla; a brother, John; two sisters, Lorna Reay and Nancy Bernard; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday in Tews Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 845 Strieff Ave., Glenwood, with services to follow.
