Anna Kunzle, 80, of Mt. Prospect died Tuesday in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Kunzle, who was born in Dalton, S.D., retired in 1970 after 25 years as a waitress at the former Phil Johnson Restaurant in Deerfield. Mrs. Kunzle’s late husband, Josef, was a chef at the restaurant before and after World War II. “Mom taught us to be responsible, to work for what we want,” said her son, James. “She taught us whatever you do you pay for, good or bad. We all got an education. She was a fighter. She was smart. She could call the stock market better than brokers, and she did.” Other survivors include two daughters, Loretta Dobias and June Gavin; a sister, Lorraine Pawelski; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Emily Catholic Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect.
