I agree with the entire March 22 editorial “America, land of prisons” until the conclusion is reached: “More prisons are not the answer. We have enough.”
Granted, education, job opportunities and drug treatment are long-term answers for dealing with crime in our society. But until such time that programs are developed to deal with these issues on a large enough scale to make a difference, additional prison cells are the only available answer.
It’s been said that millions of bars will be installed over windows over the next decade. I, for one, would rather have those bars over prison windows than over the windows in my home.
