Patrick B. Sandell, 51, a Barrington man who founded optical disk technology and electronic publishing businesses, died March 19 while in Hong Kong on business. He was president of Opticord Inc., Palatine, and chairman of Accu-Mem Systems Inc., Arlington Heights. Mr. Sandell graduated from Ridgewood High School in Norridge in 1965. He obtained a bachelor of science degree in political science from Western Illinois University in 1970. “He was a very good businessman and had many business friendships and people who respected him all over the world,” his wife, Theresa, said. “There will be people coming (for his funeral) from Japan, Hong Kong and Europe.” Other survivors include two daughters, Elise and Denise; his mother, Monique Sandell; a brother, Michael; and three sisters, Nancy Jean Schoo, Betty Blank and Anne-Marie Bridges. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich.
