Robert John Dolan, 68, former manager of the Illinois Department of Employment Security in Evanston, died Saturday of leukemia in his Wilmette home. Mr. Dolan was born in Hutchinson, Minn., and raised in Minneapolis. He moved to Chicago in 1955 and had lived in Wilmette for 26 years. Mr. Dolan graduated from the University of Minnesota and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. He retired in 1995 after 23 years as manager of the Evanston office of the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Mr. Dolan was a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wilmette and a golfer who helped create the Thursday evening league at the Wilmette Golf Club. He was also involved in the North Shore Senior Center. “He was just a kind and cheerful and positive individual,” said his wife, Jean. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dolan is survived by three daughters, Mary Jean Dolan Hynan, Carolyn O’Brien and Nancy; two brothers, Thomas and William; and three grandchildren. Services were held Monday.
