The bombing of military targets in the Kosovo/Serbian areas brings the world to a new level of tension that could be a spark to World War III. Although President Clinton’s intention to help stop “ethnic cleansing” and the massacre of many people in Kosovo is a noble idea, the chance of this escalating into a full-blown international crisis is far more likely than it was in either Desert Storm or Desert Fox.

It is likely that the Russians will support the Serbs militarily. The safety of Macedonia, Greece and Turkey may be put at risk, further complicating this situation.

What seems like the best solution is for the UN to intervene immediately and for the Security Council to request that a cessation of hostilities take place while diplomatic efforts be used to resolve the problems between the people of Kosovo and Serbia.
