What is a G-bulb? A reader from Homewood was thrilled to find a pretty glass pendant lamp at IKEA Chicago in Schaumburg for just $9.95-but was stumped by the bulb requirements.
“It is a round bulb,” a globe-shaped, incandescent bulb, says William Wiltraut, commercial manager for lighting for all IKEA North American stores. “It is an industry standard.” The rounder shape (as opposed to the longer silhouette of the standard incandescent bulb) allows the bulb to hang from the pendant neatly and not stick out beyond the fixture. Wiltraut notes that with some pendant lamps, a chandelier bulb (the narrow, flame-like shape) often works just as well or better. Be sure, he says, not to exceed the right wattage.
