I am an 8th grader and have been riding school buses since kindergarten. I would like to bring to your attention the lack of safety belts on school buses. It should be mandatory to ensure the safety of all children. If this were a law, fewer children would be hurt.
The argument is that the seats on buses are high. But just because of the seat being high doesn’t mean that children, or anyone else riding the bus, can’t get hurt. I feel that in order for all people in the school bus to get the proper protection, safety belts need to become a law for all buses to have.
I was a counselor-in-training for a camp, and even though the camp bus didn’t have seat belts, each child was provided with a seat belt that goes around the seat. I felt much safer riding on the camp bus with seat belts than when I ride to school without one.
I know that many kids my age may feel stupid wearing a seat belt on a bus because they feel nothing can happen to them, but I know that in every kid’s heart, they know that seat belts on buses are the way to go.
