The public library staff expects to occupy its new addition in May but will not hold a grand opening until after the Frankfort Fall Festival, held over Labor Day weekend.

Librarian Detlev Pansch said the celebration delay was decided by the Board of Trustees to allow for any last-minute construction glitches.

Plus, Pansch said, “We don’t want to hold a grand opening in the summer because it’s when so many people go on vacation.”

The 6,050-square-foot addition will double the amount of public space in the library, Pansch said. The library building now has 14,405 square feet.

The addition is being funded by a $1.2 million bond issue passed by voters about two years ago. It will feature three Internet access stations, an adult reading room and a teen area.

Pansch said space will be set aside for rotating exhibits by local artists.
