The Village Board has approved an ordinance that outlaws the possession of laser pointers by anyone under the age of 18.

The ordinance also prohibits anyone from aiming a laser pointer at another person.

Police Chief Zbigniew Zywczyk said lasers can cause damage if they are pointed at someone’s eyes. They also post a threat to police officers who cannot be sure whether a laser pointed at them is not a sighting device for a weapon.

Zywczyk said there have been two incidents this year in which lasers were used as pranks.
