Italian police said they have busted a brothel frequented by pensioners and detained the 73-year-old madam and her 67-year-old boyfriend.
They said the two were placed under house arrest on charges of favoring prostitution in the central Italian town of Orvieto.
The alleged brothel was in the same street as Orvieto’s old “houses of tolerance,” as brothels were quaintly known until a 1958 law closed them down.
Police involved in the operation said the house had been used as a brothel for around two years and most of the alleged prostitutes were women in their 40s and 50s.
Their clients, mostly in their 60s, gave them presents of mobile phones, rings and jewelry but not money, police said.
