The city’s Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday night unanimously endorsed the annexation and rezoning of what petitioner William Franz called some of the last undeveloped real estate in Crystal Lake.
The parcels–6.8 acres along Pingree Road north of U.S. Highway 14 and 5.2 acres at U.S. 14 and Illinois Highway 31–are “ripe for commercial development,” Franz told members of the Zoning Board.
Ronald W. Prather of Coldwell Banker and Franz’s partner, said the parcels, which are located next to a cluster of businesses that include the Showplace Theaters, Menards and the Village Squire Restaurant, are ready to boom. Prather said there are a number of parties interested in the land, but he would not elaborate.
James Bishop, a lawyer representing the Village Squire, said the restaurant has concerns about traffic flow in the area if the parcels are developed.
