SPUD SONGS: An Anthology of Potato Poems
Edited by Gloria Vando and Robert Stewart
Helicon Nine Editions, 200 pages, $14.95 paper
Even tubers sometimes inspire epiphanies. In this inventive anthology, 97 international poets and artists contribute their meditations on a mainstay vegetable. The titles of some of the poems suggest their unexpected verve and range: “On Hearing That a Potato Costs $70 in Sarajevo,” “La Papa” and “Sex and the Single Spud.” Proceeds from the book’s sales will be donated to Share Our Strength, an anti-hunger group.
