In his May 30 column, David Greising discussed the American Medical Association’s desperate efforts to try to get a respected editor for its Journal. The AMA is trying to make it seem that the firing of the editor will be a bit more difficult in the future.

Greising used a comical flood of acronyms in his piece, but he missed one: RAMA. This stands for Republican American Medical Association and will be a useful mnemonic for any new editor who wants to keep his or her job.

A second reminder would be the term “MD 1.” This denotes “Physicians First” and means never to criticize the medical profession or publish any piece detrimental to its immediate financial well-being.
