Plan commissioners in New Lenox have approved one business use on unincorporated land south of the village and objected to another.

Commissioners last week voted to approve a Will County special use allowing a wholesale landscaping operation on 5 acres of farmland owned by Silver Cross Hospital at Cedar and Laraway Roads.

Village Atty. Doug Schlak said the land, which lies in an area earmarked for a new commuter train station, will be leased on a year-to-year basis by Soderborg Tree-N-Landscape Co. No changes will be made to the property, business owner Steve Soderborg said. “The farm concept is what I want to keep,” he said.

Commissioners also voted to file an objection to a county rezoning request for land on Cedar Road between Laraway and Delaney Roads.

Wayne Brouwer, owner of Air Quality Inc., a heating, ventilation and air conditioning company, is seeking to change the site to industrial zoning from agricultural so he can locate his business there.
