He wasn’t John Q. Public. He was John F. Kennedy Jr., the only son of a slain president. What did we owe him when it was discovered he was missing? We owed him an all-out search without apology. The challenging questions by some members of the press about the scope of the search have been jarring. I would bet those reporters, for the most part, were too young to have witnessed John’s salute to his father’s coffin and the impact his gesture had on a nation in deep mourning.
In later life and adulthood, JFK Jr. did nothing extraordinary–unless surviving his unique legacy with flair counts.
