A little over a week ago it was worth perhaps a few dollars, but since then a small, roughly made ceramic figurine of little “John-John” Kennedy fetched $700 on the Internet auction site eBay.

Newspapers with special coverage of John F. Kennedy Jr., who died in an air crash July 16 along with his wife, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and her sister Lauren Bessette, have drawn scores of bidders, some willing to pay up to $10.50 for a copy.

Even addresses of Web sites featuring Kennedy’s name–with no content–are for sale, at asking prices of up to $200,000.

Terry Kovel, a publisher of several books, directories and newsletters on collectibles, predicted a spate of new souvenirs will soon hit the market.

“It isn’t unusual. When George Washington died, they went crazy. Any time a president was shot, they would do In-Memory-Of-Our-President plates.”
