The reporter who wrote the story about the alleged link between abortion and crime rates missed a very important question. I cannot help but wonder how the researchers would have reacted if the reporter had asked why crime rates were lower in the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s than they are today, yet abortion was illegal. This very simple fact would totally disprove the thesis that unrestricted abortion leads to lower crime rates.
The causes of violent crime are very complex. Drugs, lack of education, lack of opportunity, relaxed moral standards, the decline in church attendance and easy availability of guns all play a factor.
