Gerald Rosenberg, 81, of Des Plaines, died Saturday in Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Born in Chicago, Mr. Rosenberg served three years in the Army in World War II. After the war, he worked as a cabdriver for more than 20 years. A former resident of Skokie, Mr. Rosenberg retired from driving cabs in 1982. For the next five years he assisted in the management of a coin-operated laundry in Skokie. He moved to Des Plaines in 1989 to be closer to his family. “He was a kind and generous man,” said his son Larry. Other survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Pearl; another son, Don; a daughter, Gail Barldinger; two brothers, Joe and Nate; two sisters, Shirley Toback Rockling and Charlotte Bartow; and five grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 Rand Rd., Arlington Heights.
