How I got this job: I turned in my resume at a job fair and was given an interview.
Why I took this job: It was an opportunity to develop state-of-the-art technology and have great travel benefits.
Main responsibilities: I work in the corporate intranet group, maintaining United Airlines’ intranet, SkyNet, which is available to employees worldwide. I troubleshoot if the Web server has a problem. I provide technical expertise to different departments that want to develop their own Web pages for SkyNet, but may not know what tools and techniques to use. I also evaluate our current business practices–researching new tools to enhance the intranet’s performance, determining best use of our resources and recommending improvements.
Best thing about the job: I enjoy helping and interacting with the users. I also have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies and to visit new cities on the weekends.
Worst thing about the job: I wish I had more time to use the airline’s flying benefits to see more cities.
My ideal next job: I’d like to continue developing the intranet site using three-tier architecture applications.
