Home builders will be using modified side-yard setbacks, the Villa Park Village Board has decided.
Voting 4-3 last week, the board changed the required distance between the foundation of a house and the property line to any combination of 14 feet, with at least 5 feet on one side.
Previously, houses on large lots could have combined setbacks of 20 feet, with a minimum of 8 feet on one side.
The changes allow some architectural flexibility and allow houses to be built closer together, officials said.
