I commend the Chicago Tribune for “Taiwan says China exploiting the quake” (Page 1, Sept. 25). It is inhumane of China to slow international aid efforts to Taiwan for Beijing’s own political gain. It is inhumane to take advantage of a natural disaster to push Taiwan into a corner.
China has offered $100,000 in aid compared to $47 million Taiwan has given in the past to victims of disasters on the mainland.
If Beijing really cared for Taiwan, it would leave Taiwan alone and stop firing missiles and threatening to take over Taiwan by force. Friendly co-existence as two peaceful countries would be the best for the region, best for the world and best for future generations.
